When a patient with an implanted cardiac device presents to the emergency department, the device manufacturer must be called to interrogate the device. About 50% of the time, these patients do not have their card identifying their device, causing major delays in triage as the manufacturer is determined, impacting quality of care. The Medical Device Identifier (MDI) can identify the brand of an implanted cardiac device in 20 seconds or less, preventing wasted triage time in the most expensive department in the hospital.
